Video: Greetings From Tim Buckley Trailer

A film about the talented musicians Jeff Buckley and his father Tim Buckley. Doesn’t sound like a good idea, does it?

If you know their tale the two barely met. Jeff certainly mentioned in a interview his displeasure in having to share company with his father in the CD store rack, let alone having to do so on film!

The film supposedly focuses on the 1991 tribute show to Tim Buckley at St Ann’s Church that allowed Jeff to expose his amazing vocals to the big wigs in the music industry. Scenes from the film were even filmed in the church in Brooklyn were the tribute was held.

Jeff Buckley is played by Penn Badgley (Easy A, Gossip Girl, The Young and The Restless!), and newcomer Ben Rosenfield plays his father, Tim Buckley. Imogen Poots (V for Vendetta, 28 Weeks Later, Fright Night [2011]) also stars as Jeff’s love interest, Allie.

Penn Badgley decided to hide from the sun and exercise to prepare for the role of Jeff, and practised performing with Jeff’s mate Gary Lucas. He also performed his vocal scenes live for the film, that’s impressive at least.

Is this a blatant grab for cash, or am I being too cynical?

Of course I will force myself to go and watch the film and hopefully I will not be sadly disappointed it was ever made.

Greetings From Tim Buckley is to be released on 1 August 2013 in Australia. Showing at Cinema Nova, Melbourne if you’re interested.
