Video: Ween – The Mollusk* (Lego Animated Film Clip)
Ween sadly are no more having disbanded last year after a very long career (28 years) and substance abuse issues. Singer Gene Ween (Aaron Freeman) decided to retire from the band last year to pursue his solo career. Say what? And because he felt he needed to leave the band in order to finally get sober.
That’s fair enough. At least I finally saw Ween play live in 2011 before they did break up (no thanks to the Alternative Nation Ween fiasco!). The show was also in a great venue, at The Forum, Melbourne – so I have to be somewhat content. Some fans (whom may or may not have been smoking something) reckon this was the great setlist from that night.
Dean Ween is still hoping that one day they might reform and play some shows together again. But until Gene returns there will not be a Ween reformation.
Check out Ween performing Freedom of ’76 after they just wrote the song for Pure Guava as a very young duo back in 1993. They were stoned and answering questions on TV! Listen out for Gene Ween’s phenomenal vocal performance:
Dean (Mickey Melchiondo) actually shares his stories about the formation of Ween on a short Ween Documentary made by a friend of his, Sam.
Ween made a little TV commercial jingle that was supposedly rejected by Pizza Hut. I won’t spoil the surprise, but make sure you listen out for the second half – Where’d the Cheese Go? – Part 2:
Dean Ween reckons the best live recording of the band was captured in Australia by Triple J @ The Enmore Theatre, Sydney (2008):
But tell me, how can I go fishing with Dean Ween?
Head to New Jersey and hook up with the god on guitar at: Mickey’s Guide Service. He is fully insured and he knows CPR, but don’t worry about his fucking fishing credentials, he’s Dean-fucking-Ween!
However, sit the fuck down and be patient, his fishing charter service is booked out a year in advance!
*Dean has gone on record saying that The Mollusk was one of his favourite ever Ween tracks. This is an important tidbit you can drop subtly during your fishing trip.
