Video: Daughter Smother Live @ Metro Theatre, Sydney (24 July 2013)

Savages, Daughter, Chvrches, Kurt Vile, Jagwar Ma, Frightened Rabbit, King Krule, Cass McCombs, Drenge, Parquet Courts, Autre Ne Veut have all announced sideshows for the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Australia in 2014.

Savages - Silence Yourself album coverTwo releases of 2013 that have captured my full attention are Silence Yourself by Savages and If You Leave by Daughter. Silence Yourself whips you across the ears and has you imagining that the punk ladies of Savages were brought up by Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedy’s) himself.

If You Leave is a quiet and intimate tale of love lost that provides you with comfort when you just need a hug and a cup of hot chocolate. To be given the opportunity to hear either album live is giving me hives at the thought. How does one get rid of hives?

To add to the ambience Daughter will be performing their two sideshows in churches in Melbourne and Sydney. Don’t blame me if you don’t have a vision at the show. That probably costs extra.

Plus, support for the Savages has been graciously accepted by my favourite Aussie avant-garde weirdo Kirin J Callinan. Kirin has that mad dog look in his eye aka Nick Cave circa Nick The Stripper (The Birthday Party). I like it, it scares people. Invite Kirin round to your Halloween Party and you know it’ll be a great strange night.

Dip into your wallets again for some exciting musical experiences that you can write home about. Tour dates are below.

About noisynoodle

I am a noisy noodle hailing from Melbourne, Australia who loves listening to noise in all forms, but preferably in music, TV and film. I’ve moonlighted on community radio at SYN-FM many years ago when I was still a “youth”. My mission is to promote live music (get off your bum and see something!), highlight interesting TV shows that are ignored by the ratings, expose some cool films and to not go deaf trying!

Onto this one already! One of my major regrets was not organising tickets in time and missing out on seeing Daughter (for about 20 euro!) when they played in Paris when I was there earlier this year….I didn’t go to the Corner gig in july because the only other person I know who also likes them is my own daughter, & she is under 18. So I am thrilled that they are back and playing an all ages gig – I will be organising tickets this time and taking her along!

Oh no, Daughter would have been fab to see in Paris! Damn that Corner gig selling out and not being all ages! I have secured a Laneway Festival ticket, but this church gig has piqued my interest! Check out the full Metro Theatre gig in Sydney (on Moshcam) – the band come across as very sweet and appreciative of their fans.
