Video: The Mark of Cain 1000 Yards Clip
Australia’s boys of hard rock The Mark of Cain are known for their support of the local film industry in Australia. They have worked with young directors to produce clever video clips (Hindsight), and they have provided their music to accompany the classic Aussie soundtrack for the film Idiot Box (starring Ben Mendelsohn, Jeremy Sims, John Polson).
BlackBox Films Melbourne created and funded the video clip for The Mark of Cain’s 1000 Yards track from their 2012 release Songs of the Third and Fifth. The 3 person crew from BlackBox filmed the clip within 3 days within the Melbourne CBD, and edited the clip within 3 days to boot.
BlackBox presented the 1000 Yards clip to The Mark of Cain who liked it so much that they just had to release it as the official clip! I think all budding film students should do the same. No, don’t just make video clips for The Mark of Cain, go out and make clips for your favourite local musicians!
BlackBox Films have also made video clips for other Australian acts such as Gurrumul, Blue King Brown, and King Parrot.
Ah, Idiot Box! Director David Cesar’s classic slacker film perfectly captured Australian bogans (rednecks) circa 1996. Jeremy Sims character Mick recites a nice poem in the film that you can enjoy in the clip below.
Hear The Mark of Cain’s cover of Aussie punks X’s Degenerate Boy (Idiot Box Original Soundtrack):
The Idiot Box Soundtrack has become somewhat of a rarity. Tim Rogers (You Am I) probably still has a copy he can give to you if you ask politely.
