Video: Comedian Ronny Chieng @ 2013 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala

I love watching the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala every year as it helps me detect which new comedians I need to quickly buy tickets to see.

While the comedians are out tonight at the Palais Theatre performing for the gala, Channel Ten will air the gala at 8.30pm this Saturday, 22 March 2014. Cancel your plans, and tell your friends you’ll be washing your pubic hair. Or tape it. Whatever is easier.

Newcomer Ronny Chieng was one of the highlights of the gala last year. His Chinese-Malay-US-Singapore-Australian perspective is very funny. I had the luxury of seeing Chieng open for the comedy legend Mr Dave Chappelle only a short few weeks ago, and he came across confident, cool and most importantly, entertaining. Chieng, was great too 😉

Since then we’ve seen Chieng act in the ABC comedy full of crazy Council antics This Is Littleton (which he helped write), and he appeared in a great episode of Peter Helliar’s TV show It’s A Date, which also aired on the ABC.

As mentioned previously, Chieng also played the role of the cute cat in everyone’s favourite quirky sketch show Sam Simmon’s Problems. Purr.

Ronny Chieng is current touring Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from March to May 2014. If you’re lucky, he might let you pat* his tail.

About noisynoodle

I am a noisy noodle hailing from Melbourne, Australia who loves listening to noise in all forms, but preferably in music, TV and film. I’ve moonlighted on community radio at SYN-FM many years ago when I was still a “youth”. My mission is to promote live music (get off your bum and see something!), highlight interesting TV shows that are ignored by the ratings, expose some cool films and to not go deaf trying!
