Bassist Les Claypool and his gang of merry men Primus have produced a creepy and infectious cover of Pure Imagination from the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory Soundtrack. It is but one song from their forthcoming album Primus & The Chocolate Factory (with the Fungi Ensemble) to be released on 21 October 2014 and it bloody rocks!

I can’t wait to poise my finger on the play button of the Gene Wilder film, and listen along to the beautiful and trippy sounds of Mr Claypool’s merry men. I am itching at the the thought of not only hearing everybody’s favourite the Oompa Loompa song, but hearing Claypool croon along to (I’ve Got a) Golden Ticket!

And what about the very sad Cheer Up, Charlie which my friend from high school would always sing aloud to us when we’re having a bad day? She was probably just rubbing it in, but I fondly remember the sweet sentiment!

If you live in the centre of the universe USA you’ll have the lucky opportunity to see the Primus & The Chocolate Factory Tour. I presume your concert ticket will be wrapped around some delicious chocolate and it will be golden in colour. If not, blame Claypool for the lack of design inspiration!

Pre-orders for the album are now available in digital, CD and vinyl formats and as thanks you receive a free copy of the crazy aforementioned track, Pure Imagination. Plus, all entrants go in the draw to win Primus concert tickets for life. Say what? Hop to it Charlie, off to the lolly shop you go as you gotta be in it to win it!

Best wishes also go out to Primus drummer Tim Alexander who is recovering at home from heart surgery. He hopes to be back for their 22 October 2014 gig at the Tower Theatre, Philadelphia. Who else is going to don one of those fancy Wonka suits?
