Warp Records have confirmed that UK electronic pioneer Mark Bell of LFO passed away last week due to complications from surgery. Bell was a long time collaborator with Iceland’s favourite wild child Bjork (producing her album Homogenic), and Ms Guomundsdottir sent a couple of tweets this week which prompted the initial speculation.

Bell features suspended in air in Bjork’s Declare Independence clip, and according to “sources” on the internet, wrote the music behind the song. You might also be aware of his production skills on Depeche Mode’s Exciter, or his remixing on Deltron 3030’s self-titled hip-hop dystopic album.

I first heard the beats of LFO in 1996 when they released the crazy clip for Tied Up from the album Advance. I still don’t know what the clip means, but I still love the track.

RIP Mark.

I am a noisy noodle hailing from Melbourne, Australia who loves listening to noise in all forms, but preferably in music, TV and film. I’ve moonlighted on community radio at SYN-FM many years ago when I was still a “youth”. My mission is to promote live music (get off your bum and see something!), highlight interesting TV shows that are ignored by the ratings, expose some cool films and to not go deaf trying!
