Thank you Jaime and Mike! The coolest dudes in hip-hop today are back with a vengeance with their new album Run The Jewels 2 (Mass Appeal Records). Leaking their own album to fans via email a few days before the street date (27 October 2014) is a very nice reward for loyal fans!

I spent all night cursing at the internets when the mp3 download kept dying and denying me from some wicked beats (apparently 150,000 downloads already!). I’m blaming those of you hogging bandwidth looking at funny Meow The Jewels trailers (funds are still open on Kickstarter for 3 days if you want to donate). I don’t blame you, it’s pretty damn hilarious.

Luckily, some celestial stars aligned this afternoon and I was able to get my filthy paws on the RTJ2 album. To say the second album is a little angrier than RTJ is an understatement! The boys are pissed off! At other rappers, at the cops, at politicians, at the rich, at religious establishments, at try-hards, at dickheads, at fashion victims, and anybody else that gets in their way. Step aside peoples, El-P and Killer Mike, are here to save us!

Along the way Killer Mike spews out his brilliant raps that make you chuckle, and El-P plays it smooth as sidekick and producer extraordinaire. Forget Batman and Robin (ka-pow), Run The Jewels are the new superheroes.

You’ll recognise tracks Blockbuster Night Part 1 and Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck) featuring Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) which have been released to promote the album.

The album is available in CD, vinyl, and .wav/.flac formats, and there is also a world of new merchandise to get your zombie hands on. The iTunes version will include a bonus track that features Despot and Wiki of Ratking. Tough decisions folks!

In sad news, I didn’t realise that keyboardist Isiah ‘Ikey’ Owens (The Mars Volta) worked on the Run The Jewels 2 album before he passed away a few weeks ago while on tour in Mexico with Jack White. RIP Isiah.

I am a noisy noodle hailing from Melbourne, Australia who loves listening to noise in all forms, but preferably in music, TV and film. I’ve moonlighted on community radio at SYN-FM many years ago when I was still a “youth”. My mission is to promote live music (get off your bum and see something!), highlight interesting TV shows that are ignored by the ratings, expose some cool films and to not go deaf trying!
